Dr. Duong is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Stanford University, where he serves as the division’s LGBTQ+ ambassador. He completed his fellowships in Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology at Virginia Commonwealth University. His passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion advocacy emerged from his personal experiences as an “out” trainee and patient, witnessing firsthand the systemic inequities faced by the community. In response, he co-founded Rainbows in Gastro, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering inclusivity in medicine. Dr. Duong has presented at ACG virtual grand rounds and has moderated several AGA symposia, focusing on creating inclusive environments for both patients and trainees. His research interests and publications include disparities in chronic liver disease using real world data, culturally safe communication techniques, trauma-informed care, and medical education.
